TrashUre Hunt

TrashUre Hunt

TrashUre Hunt is an international environmental organisation that aims to raise public awareness of environmental issues through actions, education and art.

In 2000, Ralph Groenheijde came up with the idea of TrashUre Hunt.

TrashUre Hunt's origins lie in Costa Rica, where he was on holiday with his wife and 2-year-old son. While hunting for shells on the beach, his son turned out to be more interested in all the PET bottle caps that were on the beach. After a few months they had more than a garbage bag full. That woke Ralph up. Back in the Netherlands he walked onto the beach. In a few hours he found 6 garbage bags full of waste. The seed was planted, and the idea arose to hunt for treasures that did not belong in nature, and a few years later the organization TrashUre Hunt became a reality.

Fast forward to 2016, where through all the events that Ralph and fellow TrashUre Hunters put on, they took the opportunity to start the 95-day Summer Challenge together with the Municipality of The Hague. Due to the success at the end of 2016, Ralph and the team decided to transform TrashUre Hunt into a Foundation: TrashUre Hunt Foundation!

Trashure Hunt conducts a series of creative, sporting and musical activities like: Clean-up relays, craft days, Black Path promotions, music evenings and much more...

Smoke free Beach test

The municipality of The Hague is testing out a smoke-free beach in a certain area.
To try out this stretch of smoke-free beach together, TrashUre Hunt are organising beach clean-up and some fun activities, such as workshops and sports events.

Many people either do not care or completely ignore cigarette buds that have been thrown in the sand.

This initiative has the goal of bringing people’s attention to that issue by having them clean a part of a beach and then enjoy fun activities at the place that has been cleaned.
