RefurbishBike

Collecting abandoned bikes and refurbishing them

The main circular project in RefurbishBike is collecting abandoned bikes around the city, refurbishing them and then renting them out to tourists, companies, private citizens and events. The bikes are collected and checked and put in containers for renting or shipping to events around the country.

Renting out the bikes

Most of the larger cities in Denmark are queueing up to become partners with RefurbishBike as well.

The customers are:
- private citizens who think that renting a bike for 24 euros a month is an easy way to keep a bike in the city;
- tourists that just need a transport for a day or a week. (renting an electric scooter will cost you 24 euros in no time);
- companies that offer bikes to their employees;
- hotels that lend a bike to their guests
- event managers who can offer cheap mobility options to their participants and staff
- festivals who want to give guests a green mobility option.

MYRENTGO

Multimodal Service

The project aims to extend the bicycle rental service, which already exists in many hotels, to a multi-modal service that is tailored to the taste, need and driving ability of the customer. As a result, the services better fit with the customer needs and the spaces dedicated to the fleet are shared by the different mobility modes.

MYRENTGO

Key-free bike collection and return system

This project aims to automate the collection and delivery of bicycles by eliminating the physical key for MYRENTGO users: tourists use them a few times in a short period (not repetitively extended in time users).

MyRentGo is different from other urban mobility platforms that target "stable" and "repetitive" users, as their customers are "passing through", and with punctual and little repetitive use, they are tourists passing through. Therefore, it should facilitate the possibility of accessing the service with balanced efforts for the user, as they will only use the application for a couple of days in many cases.

The company implemented a system of smart locks that allow, once the reservation is made, the automatic allocation of available bicycles and the sending to customers with the confirmation and lock codes.

This helps the hotels reduce work at reception, eliminate problems of lost keys, control the availability of bicycles in real-time, and manage stocks on demand.

RefurbishBike

GPS tracking and electric bike options

This project of RefurbishBike aims to equip the refurbished rental bikes with a GPS tracker in the locks the company is able to recover any bikes that are not delivered back after the rental period.

By offering a small portable motor with a battery that can be fitted to any bike, RefurbishBike will soon be able to provide electric bikes for rent too. The electric motor will be fitted with a solar panel charging panel.

This option required a bit more care and tracking to be rolled out, but they are working on a method that will work in practical application.

A remote app-controlled bike lock with GPS tracking is also tested out to see if this feature will make RefurbishBike able to provide an actual city bike rent option.

RefurbishBike

Event mobility

This project
of RefurbishBike is about renting out refurbished bikes to event participants.

Big events in Aarhus like the OceanRace or the Northside music festival attract a lot of people both as staff and volunteers but also as spectators or guests.

By supplying a container full of bikes, RefurbishBike is able to provide clean, green and circular mobility to big events, not just in Aarhus but also in many other Danish cities. The alternative is to either walk, or go by public transportation or taxi, and this will save both time and resources.
